A Lush Green South LA, with Toni Ann Johnson
by staff
On the morning of Saturday Jan 23 South L.A. resident Toni Ann Johnson, who spent over 2 years working to convince high-level representatives of both private and public interests to plant trees on a stretch of Manchester Ave. saw the true fruits of her labor.
Award-winning screenwriter and community activist Toni Ann Johnson understands that beyond just a matter of scenery or aesthetics – trees have a definite salutary effect on our environment and our health, adding to the enrichment of the community. Toni Ann partnered with Lisa Sarno, Executive Director of Million Trees L.A., who with over 100 plus community volunteers gathered on a sunny Saturday morning to plant trees up and down Manchester in front of the Ralphs market at Western Ave.. Toni Ann calls this initiative “A Lush Green South L.A.” – Which all began with the “seed” of her idea to green the community in which she lives.
May sound utopian, but is a great start!
